Ultimate Frisbee Osaka (UFO)

Hey! It's 2010 and we are still playing! If you're interested in playing with us in our pick-up games or playing with us in a tournament, drop me a line, or just show up in Umeda and wave your hands up and down and scream "Ultimate!" real loud and someone will call the police to take you away.

WHEN and WHERE?
General Information: UFO practices take place every Sunday afternoon, amidst the greenery of Yodogawa and its vast parklands. We meet on the southern side of the river at 2:00pm, which is an easy walk from Hankyuu's Nakatsu Station (that's one north of Umeda). From the station, walk up the stairs, continue that same direction to the river and you should see some baseball fields next to the bridge. It's only about a 500m walk. Turn left and start walking. You will find us by noticing a lot of plastic flying in the air...

2009: We are mentioned in April's Kansai Scene!

Thank you to everyone who is visiting this page for the first time. We hope to see you out on the field soon! There isn't a convenience store nearby, so please buy water, chuu-hi, beer, etc before you come. If we need to, we can take one of the bikes and go for a drink run. Also, please don't wear high heels or jeans (that goes for the ladies, too!).

2007:

The following year we again traveled to Tajima and suffered a bitter defeat at the hands of Osaka Natto, a team that as to go on to play international competitions, and ended up in 3rd place. In 2007, we showed what makes Ultimate special (or why Ultimate players are "special") by playing in the middle of a typhoon for two straight days. We lost a few players due to pussing out, injury and work right before the tourney, but still managed to come away with 4th place.

Besides that, our players have played all over Japan in tournaments, such as Wakayama, Fukuoka, and Akashi. In early October of 2007, we brought two teams (Cool Whip and Cheez Whiz) to Asagiri beach near Akashi for a one-day beach tournament. After scoring well in the Near Pin, Approach and Diving Catch contests, and winning the first two games, Cheez Whiz somehow managed to come out in 2nd place! Though we only play together once a week, we managed to outperform other teams who practice three times a week. Way to go, Cheez Whiz!

2005: UFO Win Championship at Tajima Ultimate Tournament!

Under the team name "Kinki Trolls: We put the S&M into Ultimate Frisbee", 11 members from UFO drove the 3 hours to the beautiful countryside of Tajima. Every member contributed points and assists to the undefeated run at the 2nd Annual AJET Games. We were proud to have the most females of any team, and that the final was such an exciting event that everyone stayed to watch. We narrowly escaped with a victory in a sudden death point and won 11-10! Thank you to all the players and supporters!

Reasons why Ultimate is one of the best games in the world:

A. Welcomes all levels of ability, from "What's a Frisbee?" to "My first child is Discus Maximus."

B. The sport is not solely about winning; it's about people getting together and having a great time socializing, as well as staying physically active.

C. It doesn't discriminate on age, gender, fitness level, nationality or religion...however, it does have a prejudice against people without arms.

D. You decide how much you want to play: I can't last more than a minute in a gym, but with sports, I'm always running until I pass out. If you want to sub out (you know, change with someone who is waiting to play), every five minutes, it's okay! We don't want anyone overexerting themselves because it takes awhile for an ambulance to get to the fields.

E. The game is self-officiating. The hope is that people will remember that it is just a game and isn't worth cheating for. Players are expected to play by the rules and call fouls on themselves (The Honor System!). If an infraction occurs, play is restarted in the way that best approximates what would have happened if the foul had not occurred.

F. It is a non-contact sport, so no worries about losing limbs (refer to Article C).
